Anointing of the Sick

Preparing for Death, Anointing of the Sick
The anointing of the sick can be administered to a member of the faithful who, after having reached the age of reason, begins to be in danger due to sickness or old age (Canon 1004).
Canons 998 & 1004 can be summarized as those who satisfy three conditions may be anointed:
To arrange for you or your loved one to receive this sacrament, please contact the parish office at
772-334-4214. Reminder, it is not necessary to wait until the "final hours" for receiving the Anointing of the Sick but let us know on your message if you believe it is urgent.
When the time has come to plan your loved one’s funeral, please contact the Funeral Home of your choice, who will then contact our Parish office at 772-334-4214 to coordinate the date and time of the Funeral. We will gladly plan the details with you.
From Holy Scripture
"... for if he were not expecting the fallen to rise again, it would have been superfluous and foolish to. pray for the dead. But if he did this with a view to the splendid reward that awaits those who had gone to rest in godliness, it was a holy and pious thought. Thus, he made atonement for the dead that they might be absolved from their sins" (2 Macc. 12:44-46).

- 2. Reached the age of reason.
- 3. Begun to be in danger from illness or the infirmities of age or have become sick again or underwent a further crisis. It should be noted that the danger need only have begun to exist. The person does not have to be "in extremis" (in imminent danger of dying).
